Danger of social media


Social media has expand so much recently that it has become dangerous and scary for the human being, we have created something too big that harms us deeply.

SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOT HARMLESS


In my last post, I talked about cyber-bullying and how it can harm mankind. Today, I will talk about a form of cyber-bullying called cyber-stalking. Cyber-stalking is the use of the Internet to stalk or harass an individual, a group of individuals, or an organization. It may include the making of false accusations or statements of fact monitoring, making threats, identity theft, damage to data, the solicitation of minors for sex, or gathering information that may be used to harass.Since the development of social media the number of cyber-stalkers has been expanding exponentially. Cyber stalker can have any age and is not only done by adults. 


   
For example, in July 2012 a 12 year old girl and her friend of 11 years old used someone else’s computer in order to send instant messages and solicitations for sex using the victim's name. The two girls were charged for felony computer trespassing and cyber-stalking. After a tearful apology in front of court they were sentenced to six months probation. 
Cyber-stalking is a criminal offence that is never well understood by people like those two girls, they think there doing things for fun while they are doing a criminal offence. Social media is a great improvement for society but it can be used badly for the wrong reasons. Beware of chats or people who add you on Facebook they can use your personal information in some ways that will endanger or hurt you psychologically.

The Dark side of social media

Social media has unfortunately a dark side involving hurting others and death. Sharing files on the private life of others has lead to a new type of bullying called "Cyber-bullying" and like the old bullying it can lead to depression and unfortunately suicide.

To illustrate to you what is Cyber-bullying I will take the example of Amanda Todd who ended abruptly her life on October 10, 2012. May she rest in peace.
The story of Amanda is simple except that one day it turned to hell. When she was in Grade 7, she used video chat to meet new people. She got complimented on her looks by someone who convinced her to show her breasts. That same guy used this picture to blackmail her against a "show". After this her life became hell.
Police informed her that the pictures where circulating on the web and she fell in major depression, anxiety and panic disorder. Despite, her family doing her best to forget those pictures as they changed city schools multiple time because students were teasing and bullying her.

Amanda published a video on youtube named: My Story: Struggling, bullying, suicide and self harm 
where she asked for help and explained using flashcards her experiences on bully.

She then met an older guy with whom he had sexual intercourse when his girlfriend was on holiday. The week after, the girlfriends and a group of others attacked Todd at school punching her and shouting insults at her. Amanda tried to commit suicide from drinking bleach but was rushed to hospital to get her stomach pumped. When she returned at home , she found out that they were abuse made of her concerning her failed suicide attempt . Her family moved again out of town, but her mental state was worsening.
She continued to be teased at school for her poor grades and her language disorder. On October 10, 2012 she hanged herself to death.

Life can be ruined by social media because of a simple error. It is important for web users to never let people you do not trust take private pictures of yourself because once they have been published on the net it is over the whole world would be able to see it. Unfortunately, Amanda was less lucky and that simple picture ruined her life and all her loved ones.

Social Networks: Live in your world. Interact in ours.





                           MySpace: 2003. LinkedIn : 2003 Facebook: 2004. Twitter: 2006. 
In the past decade, hundreds of social networks have been founded for people to communicate, organize our real-world relationships and even meet new people. All those things look and are fantastic. It is impossible not to recognize what social media has brought to the human being. 
Therefore, could social media have a negative effect on the human being and human relationships?

Consider this into account: 39% of Americans spend more time socializing online than in person and 20% of Americans prefer communicating online or via text message than face to face. 
Indeed, social networks has touched the human being and is deteriorating the relationships between them. We have arrived at a stage where it is possible to earn money and socialize by staying in front of your computer thanks to social media.
 Nowadays, some people prioritize social networks than real life. People have to be reminded to live in their world instead of trying to compose the perfect tweet or trying to Photoshop the pictures you put later on Facebook.


Social networks have created a parallel world, a world where everybody can decide who they are by posting or blogging whatever they are. Networks have become a sort of a second life where you have virtual worlds and avatars. Net workers presents themselves not as who they are but as who they want to be like. This creates a world of avatars who changes their personality  it is therefore impossible to know who someone is. This harms real-world human relationships.

It would be okay if the Social media was a second world where people can forget about their own world but because of the development of the technology in these Social networks, a part of humanity forgets which one is the real life. It is crucial for a human to not be controlled by the machine and to always know which is the real life. 

  Humans have to make the difference between their world and social media's as this quote shows:

Antisemitism 2.0: A new form of discrimination




                    Antisemitism is a suspicion of, hatred toward, or discrimination against Jews for reason connected to their Jewish Heritage. This feeling ( or should we call it behavior?) has been around since the start of  our era. There has been so much hatred against the Jews for no reason that people nowadays consider that they see antisemitism everywhere. The human race has seen so much controversies and problems concerning Jewish people that antisemitism should not be a question anymore and we should have erased this feeling. Controversies have taken place in every continent: The Shoah in Europe, Henry Ford's Jewish Conspiracy in America and the antisemitism in the Iranian establishment.

Nowadays, after the terror and the consequences of World wars, people's mind have changed and Antisemitism has become punished by law, so there should not be anymore. Unfortunately, people have  NOT changed. Discrimination is still present and it has been used frequently in social networks. A study in France revealed that the #UnBonJuif (which means a good Jew  is the third subject the most twitted in France. The use of this hash tag is only for Antisemitism thoughts or jokes. A new form of discrimination has been founded by the use of social networks. What people who publish racist jokes do not understand is that it is still offensive for the one concerns even if it is not said directly to that person. Most Web users think they can hide behind those networks and publish anything they like but no what is offensive stays offensive no matter how you say it.

This is why we can speak of antisemitism 2.0 made by a generation who is confused mentally and think they have the right to make fun of whatever they like in the worst fashion. The worst of all is that this generation have complained about their liberty of expression and the fact that their tweets were not antisemitism but were considered discriminatory because Jews consider themselves all the time as victims.

The French Twitter will take severe action, they will ban and sue those users and twitts as well as control these twitts.
Worst of all, some new hash tags have been created this time about muslims or just racist jokes.

Social Networks have to react and be more careful about what people say on those networks, and same for you reader you should be concern about what you publish on the web even if it is an inbox or an e-mail it can still put you in trouble.

How Networks affect consumer behavior

In the United States, a man's goal is to start from nothing and develop a highly-profitable business : it is the self made man theory. It is not as easy as it sounds though and one of the main difficulties you have to overcome is consumer behavior. It is key in order to succeed that you understand what consumers like and how will they change their opinion on your brand.

Nowadays social networks has become a very important factor in consumer behaviors. Most companies and brands use social networks in order to advertise because it is a simple and free way, the only problem it is also a  very dangerous way.

Studies in the United States report that people interact with brands on Facebook more than any other social networks, most fans read news feed on those brands and interact with them. You have to admit social media is a very valuable weapon for brands, but it is also a revertible weapon that can be very easily returned against you. Where as some statistics are very flattering for brands using Facebook to expand their number of customers, for example 51% of fans say they're more likely to buy a product since becoming a fan; brands are also made to suffer from customer disapproval  as shown by the fact that 88% of Consumers are unlikely to buy from brands that ignore their complaints online. 

This is where social networks can become nightmare for brands. If a consumer went on a company's Facebook page and saw a bunch of unanswered questions or complaints from customers then the consumer will far less likely  buy anything from that company and would think that if ever he needed customer care he would be likely to be ignored. 

Social networks can really affect consumer behavior, it will increase your number of customer at first because of the advertisement but it will most likely ruin your reputation if ever customers complain online because those are accessible to everyone.
